Algae
Using Algae to filter polluted air, then using waste Algae, combined with Plankton to create a free meal for those in need.
Algae is a company that is taking the effects of climate-change in its stride. By using algae that would otherwise go to waste after use, we make it into free food for all the hungry people of Greenwich, no matter their situation.
Algae order screen
How to use Algae token:
Having a visual language that I was happy with, I felt it was important to tell the users how they could use my service. I did this by drawing steps which visually explain how to use my product.
How to Redeem Algae Token:
Affinity Diagram
From a survey launched by myself, I was able to create an affinity diagram. This gave me all of the insights that I gathered from the survey results and organised them into categories which would allow me to create accurate user personas.
Problem Statement:
“How can we solve the hunger problem in Greenwich when climate change is already in full effect?"
Elevator Pitch:
“Algae is a company that is taking the effects of climate-change in its stride. By using algae that would otherwise go to waste after use, we make it into free food for all the hungry people of Greenwich, no matter their situation.”
User Personas:
User Journey Map
After creating user personas, I felt confident in creating a user journey map. This makes it easy to visualize how my users will interact with my brand and helps to reveal any touchpoint opportunities that may present themselves.
Branding and User Touchpoint Designs:
Now that I know the areas that I could add touchpoints, the next step was to design how my brand would look, and how I could make it appeal to the customers.
Order Screen Colour Ideation
Having the visual language figured out, I felt confident to start designing an order screen which will be one of the two ways you can use an Algae token.
Using the climate catastrophe as a starting point, you are tasked with designing an innovative outcome that delivers positive progress in climate action. How can designers respond and use their skills to improve the world around them? What can you create that doesn’t just raise awareness but results in behaviour change?
Chosen Ideas - 1) Grow your own fish
The first idea I decided to investigate further was over fishing. In this world, we would have over-fished the oceans so that there would be no edible fish left in the ocean. However, I decided against this idea as after some research I found that Brits prefer their pets over the people they're in a relationship with, so this wouldn't be a viable option. My idea was to have a shop that would sell fish that we keep in captivity, and then feed them growth hormones so that they can "grow their food again".
Chosen Ideas - 2) Eating Algae and Plankton
My second idea was to have air filtration stations dotted around to accomplish 2 goals. To filter the polluted air, and also to use the waste algae to feed people who need it. This works well because, after some research, it was found that combining algae and plankton creates a meal with enough nutrients and goodness to replace a meal.
